On the Road

A two-day ride on the Empire Builder, one of Amtrak’s historic routes through the American West, was my standout trip of 2022. Traveling west from Chicago to Seattle, I saw magnificent views of the Mississippi River, the North Dakota plains and Montana’s Big Sky country. It was a wonderful way to travel through the western states.

Mallow’s Bay is the most varied collection of historic shipwrecks in the Western Hemisphere, spanning over three centuries of American shipbuilding. Only two hours from Washington, D.C., this strange and spooky site makes for a fun day trip.
